National Career Carnival 2008

Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) will host the third National Career Carnival that is to be held at the Dewan Canselor Tun Abdul Razak, from 17th -19th October. The National Career Carnival 2008 (NCC2008) is a government initiative, with the co-operation of the private/corporate sectors.

A collaborative effort between the Ministry of Higher Education, institutions of higher learning and various government agencies, local universities take turns to host the carnival to assist the Ministry in their endeavor to help graduates find jobs and match them with potential employers and job recruiters. In addition to providing an opportunity to meet potential employees, the NCC2008 will also provide information on graduate and postgraduate education programmes in universities and colleges.

1.Free Calls

If you receive a phone call on your mobile from any person, saying that, he or she is a company engineer, or telling that they're checking your mobile line, and you have to press # 90 or #09 or any other number.

End this call immediately without pressing any numbers. There is a fraud company using a device that once you press #90 or #09 they can access your 'SIM' card and make calls at your expense.

2. Virus Call

If you receive a phone call and your mobile phone displays (XALAN) on the screen don't answer the call, END THE CALL IMMEDIATELY, if you answer the call, your phone will be infected by a virus.

This virus will erase all IMEI and IMSI information from both your phone and your SIM card, which will make your phone unable to connect with the telephone network. You will have to buy a new phone. This information has been confirmed by both Motorola and Nokia.

There are over 3 Million mobile phones being infected by this virus in all around the world now.

நல்லொழுக்கத்தைக் கற்றுத் தருகிறாள். பொய், தவறு செய்தால் அன்பால் திருத்துகிறாள். மரியாதைச் சொல்லித் தருகிறாள், பெரியவர்களை மதிக்கச் சொல்லித் தருகிறாள். கல்வியை சிறு வயதிலேயே கற்றுத் தருகிறாள். தன்னம்பிக்கையை ஊட்டுகிறாள், தைரியத்தை வெளிப்படுத்துகிறாள்.

இப்புவியில் பிறந்த அனைத்து உயிருள்ள ஜீவராசிகளுக்கும் தாய் என்பவள் கண்டிப்பாக இருப்பாள். அம்மா என்று அழைக்காமல் எந்தவோர் உயிரும், இல்லை. தாயிற் சிறந்த கோவிலும் இல்லை என்பதற்கேற்ப தாயை விட இந்த உலகில் வேறு எந்தத் தெய்வமும் இல்லை. அவளுடைய அன்புக்கு ஈடாக எதுவும் இல்லை. எவ்வளவு பெரிய பணக்காரராக இருந்தாலும் எவ்வளவு படித்தவராக இருந்தாலும் எவ்வளவு சொத்து வைத்திருப்பவராக இருந்தாலும் சரி, இவையனைத்தும் தாயின் அன்புக்கு ஈடாகுமா? 10 மாதம் நம்மைச் சுமக்கையில் அவள் பட்ட துன்பம் வெறும் வார்த்தையால் சொல்லித் தீர்க்கின்ற துன்பம் இல்லை. பிள்ளையைப் பெற்று எடுத்தவுடன் அவளுடைய கடமை தீரவில்லை. சுமந்தோம் பெற்றோம் என இல்லாமல், ஞானம் நிறைந்த பிள்ளைகளை உருவாக்குவதில் அவளே முதன்மை வகிக்கிறாள்.

ஆகவே, அறிவுடைய பிள்ளைகளை உருவாக்குவதில் தாயே முதன்மை வகிக்கின்றாள். எந்தப் பிள்ளையும் தாய்ச்சொல் மிக்க மந்திரமில்லை என்று கருதினால் வாழ்க்கையில் வெற்றியைக் காண முடியும். அதே சமயத்தில் எந்தவொரு பிள்ளையும் தாயை உதாசீனப் படுத்தினால் வாழ்க்கையில் துன்பத்தைத்தான் காண முடியும். தாயாக இருந்து அவள் ஆற்றும் சாதனைதான் எத்தனை? ஏழேழு ஜென்மங்கள் எடுத்தாலும் ஒவ்வொரு தாய்க்கும் பிள்ளைகள் பட்ட கடன் தீரவே தீராது. ஈன்ற பொழுதில் பெரிதுவக்கும் தன் மகனைச் சான்றோர் எனக் கேட்ட தாய் என்ற திருக்குறளுக்கு ஏற்ப ஒவ்வொரு மகனும் தாயை பெருமையடையச் செய்ய வேண்டும்.

இளைஞர்களிடம் சீர்கேடு, சமூகத்துக்குப் பெருங்கேடு !

"இளமைப் பருவம் என்பது சவர்க்காரம் தடவப்பட்ட கண்ணாடிப் பாத்திரத்தைக் கையில் பிடித்துக் கொண்டு வழுக்கலான பாறையில் நடப்பதற்கு ஒப்பாகும்" என்று அறிஞர்கள் சொல்லிச் சென்றுள்ளனர். இதில் இளமைப் பருவம் என்பதைப் பாத்திரமாக நினைத்துக் கொள்ள வேண்டும்; சவர்க்காரம், வழுக்கலான பாறை ஆகியவற்றைச் சுற்றுச் சூழல்கள் எனக் கருத வேண்டும். கண்ணாடிப் பாத்திரத்தை ஏந்திச் செல்பவர்கள் பதின்ம வயது இளைஞர்கள். தப்பித் தவறிச் சந்தர்ப்பச் சூழ்நிலை என்கிற வழுக்கல் பாறையில் வழுக்கி விழுந்து விட்டால், சவர்க்காரம் தடவிய பாத்திரத்தைச் சரியாகவும் அழுத்தமாகவும் கட்டொழுங்குடனும் பிடித்திருக்கத் தவறிவிட்டால் அவர்களின் இளமைப்பருவம் என்கிற கண்ணாடிப் பாத்திரம் கீழே விழுந்து உடைந்துவிடும். பிறகு, கண்ணாடிப் பாத்திரத்தை ஒட்ட வைக்க முடியாது என்பது போல, இளமைப் பருவத்தில் மனத்தில் படிந்த அழுக்குகளை நீக்குவது சாத்தியமாகாது.

பள்ளியில் வெளிப் புறத்தில் உந்துருளி (மோட்டார் சைக்கிள்) களை வைத்துக் கொண்டிருக்கும் இளைஞர்களுடன் பள்ளி முடிந்ததும் மாணவிகள் அவர்களின் உந்துருளிகளில் ஏறிச் செல்கிர்றார்கள் என்று நாமே எத்தனை முறை நேரடியாகப் பாரித்துள்ளோம் . இதைக் கேட்டாலே ஈரக்குலை நடுங்குகிறது, நெஞ்சு பதறுகிறது.

எதிர்காலத் தலைவர்கள் இப்படி உருவானால், இந்தியர்களின் முன்னேற்றம் கருவிலேயே கருகிப் போய்விடுமே என்கிற கவலைதான் அதிகரிக்கிறது.

இளைஞர்கள்தாம் ஏதோ இளமை வேகத்தில் அப்படிச் செய்கிறார்கள் என்றால் இந்த மாணவிகளுக்கு என்ன வந்தது? முள் சேலைமீது பட்டாலும், சேலை முள்மீது பட்டாலும் சேதம் முள்ளுக்கு அல்ல, சேலைக்குத்தான். அது போல, தவறான முறையில் ஆண் பெண்ணுடன் சேர்ந்தாலும் பெண் ஆணுடன் சேர்ந்தாலும் அதன் முழுப்பாதிப்பும் பெண்ணுக்குத்தான் என்பது தெரிந்தும் மாணவிகள் இப்படிச் செய்வது ஏன்?

இதுமட்டுமா, கழுத்தை அறுத்துக் கொலை செய்வது உட்பட மிகவும் கொடூரமான குற்றங்களில் இளைஞர்கள் ஈடுபடுவதும் நாளுக்குநாள் கூடுகிறதே தவிர குறைந்த பாடில்லை.

இந்திய இளைஞர்களிடையே இத்தகைய பண்பாட்டுக்கு முரணான பழக்க வழக்கங்களும், மனித நேயத்திற்கு அப்பாற்பட்ட குற்றச் செயல்களும் பெருகுவதற்குரிய காரண காரியங்கள் என்ன என்பதை முதலில் கண்டறிய வேண்டும்.

என்னும் குறளின் கருத்துக்கேற்ப அனைத்து இந்திய அமைப்புகள் ஒருங்கிணைந்த செயல்பாட்டை மேற்கொண்டால்தான், இந்திய இளைஞர்களின் சீர்கேட்டைத் தவிர்க்க முடியும்.

நோய் என்னவென்று முதலில் கண்டு பிடிக்க வேண்டும். அதற்கான காரணத்தை அடுத்து அறிந்தபின், அதைத் தணிப்பதற்கான வழியை ஆராய்ந்து அந்த வழியையும் இளைஞர்கள் ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளும்படி செய்யும் அணுகுமுறையைப் பின்பற்ற வேண்டும்.

வள்ளுவர் காட்டியுள்ள இந்த வழி உடல் நோய்க்கு மட்டுமல்ல; மன நோய்க்கும் பொருந்தும். இதனைப் பின்பற்றி இளைஞர்களிடம் இருக்கும் சீர்கேட்டை அழிக்க முயன்றால்தான் வெற்றி கிடைக்கும்.

கண்ணோட்டம்: ஆட்சி மாற்றம் நடக்குமா?

ஆட்சி மாறும்; அரசாங்கம் மாறும் என்று அன்வார் சொல்வதெல்லாம் அபத்தம்; அரசியல் பொய் என்று ஒரு பக்கம் தேசிய முன்னணியினர் சொல்லி வருகின்றனர். மறுகோணத்தில் மக்கள் கூட்டணி ஆட்சி அமைக்கும் என்று அறுதியிட்டு கூறிவருகிறது. மலேசியாவை குறிப்பிட்ட ஒரு கட்சிதான் ஆட்சி புரிய வேண்டும் என்பதல்ல. அப்படிப்பட்ட பிறப்புரிமை அக்கட் சிக்கு யாரும் வழங்கவில்லை. ஓபிரதமர் அப்துல்லா அவசரமாக நாடாளுமன்றக் கூட்டத்தை கூட்டட்டும். என் பக்கம் எத்தனை நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்கள் இருக்கிறார்கள் என்பதனை எடுத்துக் காட்டுகிறேன்ஔ இப்படி எழுச்சிகரமாக பேசிவருகிறார் மக்கள் கூட்டணி தலைவர் அன்வார்.

நாடாளுமன்ற மக்களவையில் தேசிய முண்ணனிக்கு 140 இடங்களும் மக்கள் கூட்டணிக்கு 82 இடங்களும் இப்போது இருக்கின்றன. மொத்த இடங்கள் 222. தமது கட்சிக்கு தேசிய முன்னணியிலிருந்து 30 பேர் ஆதரவு தெரிவித்துள்ளனர். எனவே 82 + 30 = 112 என்ற சொற்ப பெரும்பான்மையில் ஆட்சி அமைக்க இயலும் என்பது அன்வாரின் வாதமாகும்.

அக்டோபர் மாதம் 13ஆம் தேதி நாடாளுமன்ற மக்களவை கூடும்போது அன்வார் தலைமையிலான மக்கள் கூட்டணி தனது பலத்தை பரிசோதிக்க வாய்ப்பு வரும்.

நாடாளுமன்றத்தில் பெரும்பான்மை பலம் இருப்பது தேசிய முன்னணிக்கா அல்லது மக்கள் கூட்டணிக்கா என்பது தெளிவுப்படுத்தப்பட வேண்டிய ஒன்று.

ஆட்சி மாறுவது; அரசாங்கம் அமைவது என்று இந்த முக்கியமான விவகாரங்களில் மலேசிய அரசியல் சாசனம் வ௞காட்டுதலாக விளங்குகிறது.

நாடாளுமன்ற மக்களவையில் பெரும்பான்மை ஆதரவு இருக்கும் வரை பிரதமர் டத்தோஸ்ரீ அப்துல்லா அகமட் படாவியும் அவரது அமைச்சரவையும் அதிகாரத்தில் நீடிக்க இயலும். அப்படி பெரும்பான்மை ஆதரவை பிரதமர் பெறத் தவறினால் அரசியல் சாசனத்தின் 43 (4) விதிப்படி இவருக்கு இரண்டு விருப்புரிமைகள் இருக்கிறது.

ஒன்று பிரதமர் தமது பதவியை ராஜினாமா செய்துவிட்டு மற்றொருவரை மாமன்னர், பிரதமராக நியமிப்பதற்கு வ௞வகுக்கலாம். இரண்டாவதாக நாடாளுமன்றத்தை கலைத்துவிட்டு புதியதாக தேர்தல் நடத்துவதற்கு பிரதமர், மாமன்னருக்கு ஆலோசனை கூறலாம். எனினும் அரசியல் சாசனத்தின் 40 (2) விதியின்படி நாடாளுமன்றத்தை கலைப்பதும் கலைக்காமல் இருப்பதும் மாமன்னரின் முடிவினை பொறுத்த விஷயமாகும். தற்போதைய நாடாளு மன்றத்தின் மூலமாகவே தேர்தலை நடத்தாமலேயே மாற்று அரசாங்கம் அமைய மாமன்னர் உதவ இயலும். மற்றொரு கோணத்தில் பிரதமர் கொண்டுள்ள பிரத்தியேக அதிகாரங்களை இங்கு தெளிவுப்படுத்துவது அவசிய மாகும்.

நாடாளுமன்ற மக்களவையின் கூட்டத்தை பிரதமர் அவசரமாக கூட்டலாம். அல்லது கூட்டத்தை ஆறு மாதங்களுக்கு தள்ளி வைக்கலாம். இதன் மூலம் அன்வாரின் ஆட்சி மாற்ற முயற்சியினை பிரதமர் அப்துல்லா தள்ளிப் போடலாம். எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் மேலாக மற்றொரு கடிவாளம் பிரதமரின் கையில் இருக்கிறது.

அவசர காலத்தை விதித்து நாட்டை நேரடி நிர்வாகத்தின் கீழ் கொண்டு வர இயலும். 1969ஆம் ஆண்டு மே மாத துயரச் சம்பவத்திற்குப் பிறகு நாடாளுமன்ற நடவடிக்கை நிறுத்தப்பட்டு தேசிய நடவடிக்கை மன்றம் அமைக்கப் பட்டது. துன் ரசாக் இயக்குநராக கொண்ட இம்மன்றத்தில் அப்போதைய மஇகா தலைவர் துன் சம்பந்தனும் மற்றும் மசீச தலைவர் துன் டான் சியூ சின்னும் இடம் பெற்றிருந்தனர். இந்த மன்றத்திற்கு செயலாளராக இருந்த வர்தான் தற்போதைய பிரதமர் டத்தோஸ்ரீ அப்துல்லா அகமட் படாவி.

இத்தகைய தேசிய நடவடிக்கை மன்றம் ஒன்று அமைக்கப்படும் சாத்தியம் ஒரு வேளை அமையலாம் என்றால் அப்போது மஇகா தலைவர் டத்தோஸ்ரீ சாமிவேலு மற்றும் மசீச தலைவர் டத்தோஸ்ரீ ஒங் கா திங்கும் இதில் இடம் பெறலாம். இவை யாவும் சில அரசியல் நோக்கர்களின் வெறும் ஆருடமாகவே இருக்கிறது. மக்கள் கூட்டணிப் பக்கம் மஇகா தலைவைத்து படுக்காது என்றும் டத்தோஸ்ரீ சாமிவேலு கோடிகாட்டி யுள்ளார்.

மலேசியாவை குறிப்பிட்ட ஒரு கட்சிதான் ஆள வேண்டும் என்று எண்ணங்கொள்வது சரியல்ல. இப்படிப்பட்ட பிறப்புரிமை எவரும் சம்பந்தப்பட்ட கட்சிக்கு நிரந்தரமாக வழங்கிவிடவில்லை. உண்மை நிலையினை தேசிய முன்னணி உணர்ந்து சுமுகமான அதிகார ஒப்படைப்பிற்கு வ௞விட வேண்டும் என்று மக்கள் கூட்டணியினர் வலியுறுத்துகின்றனர்.

அரசியல் சட்டவிதிகளின்படி ஆட்சியின் பொறுப்பை ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளவே நாங்கள் விரும்புகிறோம் என்று கெஅடிலான் உதவித் தலைவர் ஆர்.சிவராசா அறிவித்துள்ளார்.

தமக்கு தங்க தாம்பாளத்தில் அதிகாரம் வழங்கப்படும் என்று அன்வார் எதிர்பார்க்கலாகாது என்று மற்றொரு சாரார் கருத்துரைக்கின்றனர். நாணயத் தின் மறுபக்கத்தையும் அவர் பார்க்க வேண்டும். நாடாளுமன்றத்தில் அன்வார் தரப்பின் முயற்சி தோல்வியுற்றால் என்னவாகும்? தேசிய முன்னணிக்கும் மக்கள் கூட்டணிக்கும் இடையே வெடித்துள்ள அதிகார போராட்டம் அரசியல் நிலைத்தன்மையினை தோற்று வித்துள்ளது என்றும் சொல்லப்படுகிறது.

நாள்தோறும் அன்வார் வித்தியாச மான தோட்டாக்களை வெடித்து வருகிறார். எல்லாமே வெத்து வேட்டு நாடகம் என்று தேசிய முன்னணியினர் வசைபாடுகின்றனர்.

12ஆவது பொதுத்தேர்தலுக்கு முன்பே மக்கள் கூட்டணி அரசியல் நிச்சயமற்ற தன்மையை ஊக்குவித்து வருகிறது. நிலைத்தன்மையை சீர்குலைக் கும் வகையில் தேசிய முன்னணியை சில எதிர்ப்புச் சக்திகள் சீர்குலைத்து வருகின்றன என்று துணைப்பிரதமர் டத்தோஸ்ரீ நஜீப் துன் ரசாக் சாடியுள்ளார். நாட்டின் பங்குச்சந்தை தற்போது 39.70 புள்ளிகளாக அல்லது 3.96 விழுக்காடாக வீழ்ச்சிய டைந் துள்ளது. கடந்த 31 மாதங்களில் இது ஒரு மோசமான வீழ்ச்சி என்று துணைப்பிரதமரின் சகோதரர் டத்தோஸ்ரீ நசீர் ரசாக் கூறினார்.

அவசரப்பட்டு ஆவேசப்பட்டு இசா சட்டத்தை பயன்படுத்துவது மக்கள் மத்தியில் பீதியை ஏற்படுத்தும் என்று குறிப்பிட்ட ஒரு தரப்பு சுட்டிக்காட்டு கிறது. 1960ஆம் ஆண்டு ஜூன் 20ஆம் தேதி நாடாளுமன்றத்தில் அப்போதைய துணைப்பிரதமர் துன் ரசாக் கூறிய வார்த்தைகள் இங்கு நினைவு கூரத்தக்கவை.

ஜனநாயகத்தின் விரோதிகள், பயங்கரவாதிகள் மற்றும் கீழறுப்புவாதி களை களையெடுக்கவே இந்த இசா சட்டம். ஆரோக்கியமான ஜனநாயக எதிர்ப்பினை முடக்குவதாக இது இருக்கக்கூடாது.

ஓர் அரசாங்கத்தை தேர்ந்தெடுப்பதற்கு தேர்தல் சிறந்த வ௞. கட்சித்தாவல் சட்டரீதியில் சரியாக இருந்தாலும் அரசியல் ரீதியில் ஒரு ஒழுக்கமுள்ள நடவடிக்கையாக ஆகாது என்பது சிலரின் வாதமாகும்.

கட்சி மாறுபவர் மனிதர் அல்ல என்று கிளந்தான் மந்திரி புசார் நிக் அஜிஸ் முன்பு கூறியிருந்தார். இதில் இரண்டு விதமான கருத்து நிலவுகிறது. ஒரு கட்சியில் சேருவதும் விரும்பாத பட்சத்தில் அதனை விட்டு விலகுவதும் ஒருவரின் உரிமையாக கருதப்படுகிறது. நாடாளுமன்றத் தொகுதிக்கு ஒருவரை வேட்பாளராக தேர்ந்தெடுப்பது ஓர் அரசியல் கட்சியாக இருக்கலாம். ஆனால், அவரை நாடாளுமன்றத்திற்கு அனுப்பி வைப்பது சம்பந்தப்பட்ட தொகுதி மக்கள்தான். எனவே இவர்களின் நலனை கருதி கட்சி தாவுவது ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளப்பட வேண்டிய ஒன்று. சொந்த அரசியல் காரணங்களுக்காக தடம் மாறுவது சட்டரீதியில் சரியாக இருந்தாலும் தார்மீக ரீதியில் சரியல்ல.

30 நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்கள் இரண்டு கோடியே 70 லட்சம் மக்களின் தலைவிதியை நிர்ணயிக்க அனுமதிக் கலாமா என்று மற்றொரு தரப்பு கேள்வி எழுப்புகிறது. பாரிசான் நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களைப் பார்த்து அன்வார் குதிரை விலை பேசலாமா என்றும் இவர்கள் வினவுகின்றனர்.

மார்ச் 8ஆம் தேதி தேர்தலில் தேசிய முன்னணியின் மூன்றில் இரண்டு பெரும்பான்மை பலத்தை குறைத்தும் பெர்மாத்தாங் பாவ் தொகுதியில் மக்கள் கூட்டணியை வெற்றிபெற வைத்தது மக்கள் விருப்பம்தான். தேசிய முன்னணி இதனை மனப்பூர்வமாக ஏற்றுக் கொண்டுள்ளது. தேசிய முன்னணித் தலைவர் டத்தோஸ்ரீ அப்துல்லா அகமட் படாவியும் மக்கள் கூட்டணியின் தலைவர் டத்தோஸ்ரீ அன்வார் இப்ராஹிமும் பினாங்கு மாநில மைந்தர்கள். அன்வார் முன்னாள் துணைப்பிரதமர். அம்னோவில் வலுவான தலைவராக இருந்தவர். எதிர்க்கட்சி தலைவர் என்ற முறையில் அன்வார், அப்துல்லாவிற்கு ஆக்கரமான ஆலோச னைகள் வழங்கி அரசியல் ஆட்டத்தை குறைத்து மக்களின் பிரச்சினைகளை முன்னிலைப்படுத்தலாம். ஜனநாயகத்தில் அதிகாரத்தை வைத்திருப்பவர்களும் அதனை பிரயோகிப்பவர்களும் மக்கள் தான் என்பதனை பிரதமர் நன்கு உணர்ந்துள்ளார். பண்பாளர் மற்றும் திருவாளர் பரிசுத்தம் என்று பெயர் எடுத்தவர். அரசு பணியாளர்களால் அதிகம் நேசிக்கப்படுபவர். இவரின் பண்புகளை கருத்தில் கொண்டு துன் மகாதீர் டத்தோஸ்ரீ அப்துல்லாவை பிரதமராக்கினார்.

A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: 'I am blind, please help.' There were only a few coins in the hat.

A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.

Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, 'Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?'

The man said, 'I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way.'

What he had written was: 'Today is a beautiful day and I cannot see it.'

Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing?

Of course both signs told people the boy was blind. But the first sign simply said the boy was blind. The second sign told people they were so lucky that they were not blind. Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective?

Moral of the Story

Be thankful for what you have. Be creative. Be innovative. Think differently and positively.

What's the difference between "i.e." and "e.g."?

The Latin abbreviations "i.e." and "e.g." come up very frequently in writing and would probably come up more often if people were more sure of when it is right to use "i.e." and when "e.g." is required. To me, the only way to figure it out is to know what they stand for.

i.e.

"I.e." stands simply for "that is," which written out fully in Latin is 'id est'. "I.e." is used in place of "in other words," or "it/that is." It specifies or makes more clear.

e.g.

"E.g." means "for example" and comes from the Latin expression exempli gratia, "for the sake of an example," with the noun exemplum in the genitive to go with gratia in the ablative .

"E.g." is used in expressions similar to "including," when you are not intending to list everything that is being discussed.

Examples of i.e. and e.g.:

I.E. Id EstI'm going to the place where I work best, i.e., the coffee shop. [There is only one place that I am claiming is best for my work. By using "i.e.", I am telling you I am about to specify it.]

E.G. Exempli GratiaAt the places where I work best, e.g., Starbuck's, I have none of the distractions I have at home. [There are lots of coffee shops I like, but Starbuck's is the only international one, so it's the only "example" that would work.]

Italics

I.e. and e.g. are such common Latin abbreviations that they do not require italicization.

Capitalization

If the form "I.e." looks odd, it's because both "i.e." and "e.g" are usually mid-sentence, surrounded by commas, so they are unlikely to be seen with word initial capitals.

Some Consideration

You can use the e.g. and i.e. abbreviations both inside and outside the parenthesis. If you are writing in a formal style, however, they must go inside the parenthesis
They appear in lower case letters even if at the beginning of the sentence
Always separate the letters with a period, and follow the abbreviation with a comma.

In his anger, Dad took the child's hand & hit it many times, not realizing he was using a wrench.

At the hospital, his child said "Dad when will my fingers grow back?"
Dad was so hurt. He went back to car and kicked it a lot of times.

Sitting back he looked at the scratches, child wrote "I LOVE YOU DAD"..

SCIENTISTS HAVE FOUND THAT THE DEHYDRATED FORM OF THIS FRUIT MAY HELP QUASH PROSTATE CANCER TUMOURS

A compound found in dehydrated tomatoes may help quash prostate cancer tumours, new animal research suggests. Past studies have come to confl icting conclusions as to whether tomatoes or lycopene, an antioxidant found in tomatoes, might offer prostate cancer protection, with one recent study finding no correlation between men’s blood levels of lycopene and their risk of prostate cancer. However, the new fi ndings, reported in the journal Cancer Research, suggest that the processing of the tomato may be a key factor.

Researchers found that a form of carbohydrate called FruHis, found in dehydrated tomatoes, appeared to protect rats from developing prostate tumours. The greatest protection came from dehydrated tomatoes that had been rehydrated into tomato paste and supplemented with additional FruHis. The findings could aid in developing new, less toxic cancer therapies, said lead researcher Dr Valeri V. Mossine, of the University of Missouri in Columbia.

Mossine and his colleagues divided rats into four groups: one group was fed a diet of normal chow, while the other three groups were given chow supplemented with tomato powder, tomato paste, or tomato paste with added FruHis. All of the animals were treated with chemicals designed to induce prostate tumours. Rats on the high-FruHis diet lived longer than the other three groups. What’s more, the researchers found prostate tumours in only 18% of these animals after death, compared with 63% of rats given normal chow, and 43% and 39% of animals given tomato powder and standard tomato paste, respectively.

Looking at FruHis activity in the lab dish, the researchers found that it might work in two ways. First, the compound seemed to act like an antioxidant, protecting cells’ DNA from oxidative damage that can lead to cancer. Then, when combined with lycopene, FruHis was able to kill off prostate cancer cells. So in theory, Mossine explained, FruHis may inhibit the initial development of prostate tumours and, in concert with lycopene, hinder the growth and spread of such tumours. It’s too soon, however, for men to start eating tomato paste in the hopes of thwarting prostate cancer. “The most important next step would be conducting trials on humans,” Mossine said.

Further lab work, he added, could also shed light on whether there are other compounds in dried vegetables or fruits that “work along” with FruHis. “In my opinion, this study will make the cancer research community aware of a novel type of potential antioxidant and chemopreventive agent that may arise as a result of food processing,” Mossine said. “Hopefully, it will help to attract more attention and support to the prostate cancer prevention research area.” – Reuters

A boy was born to a couple after eleven years of marriage. They were a loving couple and the boy was the gem of their eyes. When the boy was around two years old, one morning the husband saw a medicine bottle open. He was late for office so he asked his wife to cap the bottle and keep it in the cupboard. His wife, preoccupied in the kitchen totally forgot the matter. The boy saw the bottle and playfully went to the bottle fascinated by its color and drank it all. It happened to be a poisonous medicine meant for adults in small dosages. When the child collapsed the mother hurried him to the hospital, where he died. The mother was stunned. She was terrified how to face her husband. When the distraught father came to the hospital and saw the dead child, he looked at his wife and uttered just five words.

QUESTIONS :

ANSWER :
The husband just said "I am with you Darling"

The husband's totally unexpected reaction is a proactive behavior. The child is dead. He can never be brought back to life. There is no point in finding fault with the mother. Besides, if only he had taken time to keep the bottle away, this would not have happened.. No one is to be blamed. She had also lost her only child. What she needed at that moment was consolation and sympathy from the husband. That is what he gave her.

If everyone can look at life with this kind of perspective, there would be much fewer problems in the world. "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step". Take off all your envies, jealousies, unforgiveness, selfishness, and fears. And you will find things are actually not as difficult as you think.

MORAL OF THE STORY:
This story is really worth reading ..... Sometimes we spend time in asking who is responsible or whom to blame, whether in a relationship, in a job or with the people we know. By this way we miss out something called L.I.F.E!!

Petrol to cost RM2.70 from today

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi on Wednesday announced price hikes for petrol, diesel and electricity.

He said the new price for petrol is RM2.70 a litre, effective midnight tonight. The price goes up by 78sen from the current RM1.92, a hike of 40%.

Abdullah also announced that the price of diesel would be increased by RM1 from RM1.58 to RM2.58.

He also said that Tenaga Nasional Bhd would be raising electricity rates by 18% for homes and 26% for business users.

The announcements are part of the new fuel subsidy plan.

Abdullah also announced a RM625 annual cash rebate per vehicle, for owners of private vehicles with engine capacities of up to 2,000cc, as well as pickup trucks and jeeps with engine capacities of up to 2,500cc.

Owners of private motorcycles with engine capacities of up to 250cc will receive RM150.

Payment will be made via Money Order upon renewal of road tax, from July 1.

For owners of private vehicles with engine capacities exceeding 2000cc, road tax will be reduced by RM200.

Owners of private motorcycles with engine capacities above 250 cc will get RM50 reduction in road tax.

"It always happens this way', the Sun told the Wind.

"What does?" The Wind, as usual, was curious.

"Thorns and roses - they always co-exist."

"But their outer self is in such irony to the inner self."

The Sun gave the Wind a blank look.

Surmising the hint, the Wind chose to clarify further.

"Yesterday when I was blowing, I overheard the rose talking to itself…"

THE ROSE:

"I don't know why the hell people smile when they see me. I look so pathetic. All my life I simply exist being a sharp and pointed thing, good for nothing except hurting people. Or maybe they feel better about themselves after seeing my silly and ugly existence!"

The Wind sighed and continued. "I overheard the thorn too..."

THE THORN:

"I don't know why people are afraid of me. Some even ask their children to maintain a safe distance from me whereas I think I am one of the most beautiful things ever created. My petals, my design, my color, my softness, my aura, my romance...where else would they get such an austere mix? And yet...still, I thank God for the way he made me and no matter what others think or do to me, I would rather prefer to remain happy forever as in the end there are so few things in this world which are as beautiful as I am."

"So", this time the Sun sighed, "the rose is unhappy for it assumed itself - probably looking at the thorn all its life - to be just a thorn and thus ignored the happiness that it deserved all these years. While on the other hand the thorn assumed itself to be a rose and thus enjoyed happiness ever since."

The Wind nodded.

"It always happens this way", the Sun said.

"What does?" asked the Wind.

"Happiness can definitely follow us wherever we go and whatever we do ... only if we know what we are and what actually we are looking at."

A son and his father were walking on the mountains. Suddenly, the son falls, hurts himself and screams, "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"

To his surprise, he hears the voice repeating, somewhere in the mountain: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"

Curious, he yells, "Who are you?"

He receives the answer, "Who are you?"

Angered at the response, he screams, "Coward!"

A Jobless man applied for the position of 'office boy' at Microsoft. The HR manager interviewed him then watched him cleaning the floor as a test.

'You are employed' he said. Give me your e-mail address and I'll send you the application to fill in, as well as date when you may start.

The man replied 'But I don't have a computer, neither an email'.

'I'm sorry', said the HR manager. If you don't have an email, that means you do not exist. And who doesn't exist, cannot have the job.'

The man left with no hope at all. He didn't know what to do, with only $10 in his pocket. He then decided to go to the supermarket and buy a 10Kg tomato crate. He then sold the tomatoes in a door to door round. In less than two hours, he succeeded to double his capital. He repeated the operation three times, and returned home with $60.

The man realized that he can survive by this way, and started to go everyday earlier, and return late. Thus, his money doubled or tripled everyday.

Shortly, he bought a cart, then a truck, and then he had his own fleet of delivery vehicles.

5 years later, the man is one of the biggest food retailers in the US He started to plan his family's future, and decided to have a life insurance.

He called an insurance broker, and chose a protection plan. When the conversation was concluded the broker asked him his email. The man replied,'I don't have an email.' The broker answered curiously, 'You don't have an email, and yet have succeeded to build an empire. Can you imagine what you could have been if you had an e mail?!!' The man thought for a while and replied, 'Yes, I'd be an office boy at Microsoft!'

IPF President Pandithan Passes Away

PETALING JAYA: Indian Progressive Front (IPF) president Tan Sri M.G. Pandithan, formerly the vice-president of MIC, passed away at KL General Hospital at 8.20am on Wednesday.

He’d been admitted following a long illness. His body will be taken back to his home in Serdang at noon today.

Pandithan was also formerly Member of Parliament for Tapah and parliamentary secretary to the Trade and Industry Ministry.

He leaves behind his wife Jayashree and 21-year-old son Jeyan, who’s studying medicine in the Ukraine.

The funeral will take place on Thursday at 3pm at a venue to be determined.

Once considered a protege of MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu until they had a falling out in 1988, after which Pandithan was sacked from the party.

The two would remain political enemies for nearly 20 years, but made up last year during the Ijok by-election.

From hospital bed last week, Pandithan named his wife Jayashree as his successor in IPF, declaring her as acting president. This led to some dissent within the party.

Perspective on life

One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live.

They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.

On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?"

"It was great, Dad."

"Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked.

"Oh yeah," said the son.

"So, tell me, what you learned from the trip?" asked the father.

The son answered:
"I saw that we have one dog and they had four.

We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end.

We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night...

Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.

We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.

We have servants who serve us, but they serve others.

We buy our food, but they grow theirs.

We have walls around our property to protect us; they have friends to protect them."

The boy's father was speechless.

Then his son added, "Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are."

Isn't perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have.

Cancer Update from John Hopkins

No plastic containers in micro.

No water bottles in freezer.

No plastic wrap in microwave.

A dioxin chemical causes cancer, especially breast cancer.

Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.

Recently, Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital , was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us.

He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers...

This especially applies to foods that contain fat.

He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body...

Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food... You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else.

Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons...

Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food.
Cover food with a paper towel instead.

When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks, 'Who was that?'

'It was Bob the next door neighbor,' she replies.

Moral of the story:

If you share critical information pertaining to credit and risk with your shareholders in time, you may be in a position to prevent avoidable exposure.

Lesson 2:

A priest offered a Nun a lift.

She got in and crossed her legs, forcing her gown to reveal a leg. The priest nearly had an accident.

After controlling the car, he stealthily slid his hand up her leg.

The nun said, 'Father, remember Psalm 129?' The priest removed his hand.

But, changing gears, he let his hand slide up her leg again.

The nun once again said, 'Father, remember Psalm 129?'

The priest apologized 'Sorry sister but the flesh is weak.'

Arriving at the convent, the nun sighed heavily and went on her way.

On his arrival at the church, the priest rushed to look up Psalm 129.

A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp. They rub it and a Genie comes out.

'Me first! Me first!' says the admin clerk. 'I want to be in the Bahamas , driving a speedboat, without a care in the world.'

Puff! She's gone.

An eagle was sitting on a tree resting, doing nothing.

So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the eagle and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Moral of the story:

To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.

Lesson 5

A turkey was chatting with a bull. 'I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree,' sighed the turkey, 'but I haven't got the energy.'

'Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?' replied the bull. They're packed with nutrients.'

The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at the top of the tree.

He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot him out of the tree.

Moral of the story:

BullShit might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there.

Lesson 6:

A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field. While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him.

As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was. The dung was actually thawing him out! He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy.

A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.

Moral of the story:

(1) Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy.

(2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend.

(3) And when you're in deep shit, it's best to keep your mouth shut!

A letter by a Malaysian Indian to all Indians..

I received this email quit some time. But i don't have time to share with you guys. From my observation, the 'ONE' who wrote it really mean it and do read guys..

Correct me if wrong- Think about this...

Dear friends,

I am an Indian expatriate ( an Engineering Management Professional) living in Malaysia for 16 years , working for one of the Top companies in Malaysia and I also got this mail from many sources. Being in Malaysia for 16 years and also married to a Malaysian wife , in my day to day life, I have met so many Malaysian Indian Professionals/white collar job personnel, blue collar job personnel and also many business men.

Moreover , since my Two daughters are studying in Tamil school, I have had many opportunities to interact with many parents while giving motivational talk ,giving tuition to Tamil students etc., In a nut shell, I have come across all levels of Malaysian Indians and also the Chinese and Malays. So, based on my third eye view and observation, I would like to ask all of you a few questions.

How many of you can read, write and speak your mother tongue Tamil ( I would focus only on the language Tamil as Majority of Indians here are ethnic Tamils)?
How many of you have enrolled your children in Tamil schools or at least thinking of enrolling your children in Tamil schools?
How many of you have donated money to Tamil schools, more than what you have been keep donating/spending bulk of your money to Temples and Churches?
How many of you buy and read Tamil News papers?
How many of you write the Name Boards of your shop/company (if you are a business man) in Tamil language also along with other languages?

I am very sure that a majority of you, I may not be surprised if all of you who are in this e-mail list give an answer None, None, None, None and None. If you ask a Chinese or Malay the above questions, the answers will be definitely a positive answer. Are you all fighting for the rights of poor Malaysian Indian Tamils through these English e-mails? If so, fist you should fulfill the above requirements.

If you can not read, speak and write your own mother tongue, how can you understand the grouses of poor Indians, the majority of these poor Malaysian Indians are Tamil speaking people i.e ethnic Tamils. All their grouses are published in Tamil News papers which you can not read and understand then how can you understand their feelings. When I ask my own Malaysian relatives to converse with their children in Tamil they do not even consider and they themselves do not attempt to speak in Tamil. Once, when I asked my relative to enroll their children in Tamil school they said Tamil school standard is very poor whereas the same relative who studied in high standard!!!!!!! national schools can not identify "verbs" in an English poem ,but doing a degree course in English, sounds very funny!!!!!!! Is it not? But, it is a fact.

There are a lot of divisiveness existing among Malaysian Indians (still I talk about Tamils). I have not come across a single Chinese whether he follows Buddhism or Christianity or Hinduism or Islam, who can not speak Chinese language. I have also not come across single Malay who can not speak their Malay language. Whereas the Indian Tamils, if they start following Christianity or Islam they do not speak in Tamil ,they start speaking in English or other language and they do not call themselves as Tamils and they call the Hindus only as Tamils. Have they become English or British after becoming a Christian? Poor understanding or no understanding about religion, culture, race, ethnic group and finally about language. Language is the only tool to establish a strong bondage among communities and so every one of you must equip yourself with that tool first. Communication through e-mails in English will only satisfy your ego, it won't serve to address the root of the problem.

First and foremost, every human being should feel proud about their mother tongue ( that is why it is called mother tongue) and their culture. All of you should stop thinking that Tamil schools are meant for low class people and speaking the Language Tamil is low class and it is a (xxxxxx-deleted with purpose) language.

If two Germans meet they speak in German.

If two French meet they speak in French.

If two Japanese meet they speak in Japanese.

If two Chinese meet they speak in Chinese.

If two Malay meet they speak in Malay.

Because they all have the pride about their language.

If two Tamils meet, they speak in English!!!!!!!.

Because, they can not speak Tamil and what a shame? Even in TV advertisements, the Chinese and Malay segments spoken by the respective race person in their mother tongue is very clear / fluent /confident ,but, the Tamil segment spoken by the Indian Tamil person is always not clear / fluent /confident like Malay or Chinese. Why?

Because, the Tamils do not take pride in their language. This must change first and that can be done only by every individual's willingness. If any one of you do not respect and take care of your mother, your neighbor will not respect you. Am I correct? The same goes to the language, if you do not respect and take care of your mother tongue, other race people will not respect you and they will only laugh at you. This has been experienced by my wife who is an English Teacher in a National school and many of her colleague Malay teachers have praised her for sending our children to Tamil schools.
So, all of you please think.

You may ask what have I done for the language ?

Since I am an Expatriate my company pays for my children to study in International schools, but, I opted to send my children to Tamil schools because they should become part of the community and they should not get alienated by not able to speak their mother tongue and not able to understand the local culture, after all they are Malaysian citizens.
We practice speaking with our children in all three languages. I strictly speak in Tamil, my wife in English and Malay. With the result, all of my three children ,even my 3 year old daughter can speak fluently in all three languages.
I spread the message of importance of putting the children in Tamil schools and I have managed to convince a Malaysian Indian Engineering professional to switch over his children from Chinese school to Tamil school.

We should not be fanatic about language; we can learn as many languages as we can, but, without ignoring our mother tongue. Only the mother tongue can unite the people and create a bonding.

"The most influential person who will talk to you all day is you, so you should be very careful about what you say to you!"

Raghuvaran Passes Away

Raghuvaran, a distinguished character artiste, passed away in Chennai this morning (March 19). He was admitted to Mehtha Hospital for treatment a few days ago. The reason for the death has been disclosed as weakness caused by excessive alcohol consumption. It is learnt that he had been under intensive medical care for the past few weeks.

Raghuvaran, born in Decemember 11,1948, has acted in several Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, and Hindi films. Most of his roles were of a villain or a supporting actor. He has also acted as a hero in a few movies.

Though he has acted in several films, he shot to fame with his role as the protagonist of a Tamil soap opera, 'Oru Manidhanin Kadhai' (One Man's Story), about the agony of a well-to-do man who becomes an alcoholic.

Unfortunately, the drug addiction cast its shade in his real life too. His wife Rohini too divorced him due to his addiction. They have a son Rishi.

Though Raghuvaran tried to rid his habit and tried to lead life on normal terms, the addiction did not leave him alone.

'Anjali', 'Batsha', Puriyatha Puthir, and 'Mudhalvan' are some of the films in which he had rendered outstanding performances. He has acted in many of Rajini’s films including his latest film 'Sivaji - The Boss'. Though he had gradually reduced the number of films in recent years, he had three releases lined up in 2008, 'Bheemaa', 'Ashoka', and 'Silanerangalil'. He had also acted as Dhanush's father in ‘Yaradi Nee Mohini’, which is yet to be released.

MIC - A new era begins

On March 8, MIC president S Samy Vellu turned 72. It was also the day the curtain fell on his political era.

After nearly three decades in power, the politician who commanded a cult-like following in his party was defeated in the fortress where he reigned for nine terms.

It was a cleansing of MIC's top echelon. The casualties included deputy president G Palanivel, vice-president S Sothinathan, Youth chief S A Vigneswaran and Women's wing chief P Komala Devi.

The party only managed to retain three out of nine parliamentary seats and six out of 19 state seats. The message was loud and clear.

According to Malaysian Indian Business Association (Miba) president P Sivakumar, this could signal the birth of a new era for MIC.

But firstly, he said, the party must conduct an in-depth analysis to determine the reasons behind its crushing defeat.

"When you fall, you must pick yourself up and look at the reasons as to why you fell so that you do not fall again," he told Malaysiakini yesterday.

Likening the damage inflicted on MIC to the destruction brought about by the Sept 11 terror attacks, he said it also served as a lesson for the younger generation of leaders.

The factors

Sivakumar said the first, and most important, factor which contributed to the devastation of MIC was the advent of the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) and the wave of discontent it created.

On Nov 25 last year, some 30,000 disgruntled Indians took the streets to vent their frustration against the government and MIC, namely its president.

"These were not the voices of a few hundred, but tens of thousands of people. Many organisations also came out to help MIC and the government on this issue, but no immediate attention was given, except for some assurances," he said.

MIC - to the chagrin of the community - had also joined the government in condemning the Hindraf movement whose five key leaders are now held under the Internal Security Act (ISA).

Another factor, Sivakumar said, was the silencing and removing of dissenting voices in MIC, including Samy Vellu's former estranged deputy S Subramaniam.

"Thousands of Subramaniam's supporters were left in the lurch and they also expressed their anger in this polls," he noted.

Thirdly, the Miba president pointed out that the manifestos of the opposition parties, which stressed on equality, were also well received by the Indians.

"The Indian community is not questioning the special rights and the privileges accorded to the Malays, but just want their due rights and equal opportunities as citizens of this country," he said.

The future

On the future of MIC, Sivakumar said the most important issue to address now was unity in the party.

"MIC must look into the possibility of bringing those on the outside back into the fold in order to strengthen the party," he added.

Asked if this included Subramaniam, he responded: "Why not? He has a large following and he was the longest serving deputy president."

Subramaniam, whose ties with Samy Vellu had been strained for years, was defeated in the 2006 party polls by Palanivel, who was endorsed by the president.

Meanwhile, Sivakumar also stressed on the importance of MIC to craft a new image for itself.

"The party must break free from the image of violence and thuggery. It must become a party which is willing to accept constructive criticisms and feedback

"A conducive environment must be created to attract the thousands of well-educated and talented Indians in the community who prefer to speak freely about issues," he said.

"We need a large number of dynamic young minds to chart the future course of the party. More bureaus must be set up to look into the critical issues facing the community instead of leaving it in the hands of one or two think-tanks," he added.

Still relevant

Sivakumar also reminded MIC leaders that the younger generation of Indians are more aware of their rights.

In view of this, he said the party must create a leadership which blends the experience of the veterans with the dynamism and talents of the young.

On that note, the Miba president also stressed that MIC was still a relevant political force in the country.

"BN (Barisan Nasional) is still ruling the country, so MIC is still relevant. We must not forget that the founding fathers had entered into a social contract between MIC, Umno and MCA. MIC is still a good platform for the Indian community," he said.

Sivakumar advised the younger leaders in MIC to pay heed to the valuable lessons from this tragic episode for the party.

"Do not cull talents because of rivalry. MIC is a powerful party, talents must be nurtured and not expunged," he said, adding that the ball was now in the president's court.

"This is a new beginning for MIC. Samy Vellu's next step is crucial," he stressed.

Agreeing with Sivakumar, a party observer said the younger leaders must also realise that they cannot afford to ignore the voice and sentiments of the people.

"Samy Vellu had given the kiss of life to the political careers of the leaders in MIC and now he has taken it away. These leaders have learned, albeit bitterly, the true meaning of democracy," he said.

"From the ruins of yesterday, hopefully a new and more vibrant MIC will rise tomorrow. A party which the Indians will once again embrace," he added.

ஐந்து ஆண்டுகளுக்கு ஒரு முறை நடைபெறும் பொதுத் தேர்தலும், ஒவ்வோர் ஆண்டின் இறுதியில் நடைபெறும் பள்ளித் தேர்வும் கிட்டத்தட்ட ஒன்றுதான்.

ஓராண்டு முற்றிலும் பாடங்களைச் சரியாகப் படித்தவர்களும், பாடங்களை மனத்தில் பதித்தவர்களும் தாங்கள் நினைத்தபடி பள்ளித் தேர்வில் நல்ல மதிப்பெண்களைப் பெறுவார்கள். எதிர்கால வாழ்க்கையையும் நிச்சயித்துக் கொள்வார்கள். ஆனால் பள்ளிப் பாடங்களையே படிக்காமலும், புத்தகங்களைக் கூட தொட்டுப் பாராதவர்களும் தேர்வில் கோட்டை விடுவது திண்ணம்.

“ஏன் உன் புத்தகத்தில் எல்லாம் சிவப்புக் கோடுகளாகவே உள்ளன?” என்று கேட்கும் தந்தையிடம், “ஆசிரியர்களிடம் நீல நிற மை உள்ள எழுதுகோல் இல்லாமல் சிவப்பு மை எழுதுகோல் மட்டுமே இருந்ததால் இந்த நிலை” என்று பதில் சொல்லும் மாணவர்கள் தங்களிடம் உள்ள அந்தப் புத்திக் கூர்மையைப் பாடம் படிப்பதில் செலுத்தி இருந்தால் எவ்வளவு நல்லது?

பள்ளித் தேர்வுக்கும் பொதுத் தேர்தலுக்கும் ஒரே ஒரு முக்கிய வேறுபாடு என்னவெனில், பள்ளித் தேர்வில் மாணவர்கள் மட்டுமே வெற்றி அல்லது தோல்வியைச் சந்திக்கின்றனர்; பொதுத் தேர்தலிலோ, வாக்காளர்களும் வேட்பாளர்களுமாக இரு தரப்பினரும் சேர்ந்து வெற்றியையோ, தோல்வியையோ அடைகிறார்கள் என்பதுதான்.

பள்ளித் தேர்தலில் ஓராண்டு வரை மாணவர்கள் மட்டும்தான் படிக்கின்றனர். பொதுத்தேர்தலிலோ, ஐந்து ஆண்டுகளுக்கு அந்தந்தத் தொகுதி வாக்காளர்களும், வேட்பாளர்களும் படிக்கின்றனர்.

பள்ளித் தேர்வில் படிக்காத மாணவர்கள் தோல்வி அடைவது போல, பொதுத்தேர்தலில் வேட்பாளர்களைச் சரிவரப் புரிந்து அல்லது அறிந்து கொள்ளாத வாக்காளர்களும், வாக்காளர்களின் பிரச்சினைகளைத் தெரிந்து கொள்ளாத - அல்லது அறிய முற்படாத வேட்பாளர்களும் தோல்வியைக் காண நேருகிறது.

இந்தச் சிந்தனையோடுதான், பொதுத் தேர்தலில், “சோதித்துப் பார்க்கும் முயற்சியில்” ஈடுபட வேண்டாம் என்று நாட்டு மக்களைப் பிரதமரும், “அரசியல் கருவியாக இந்தியர்களைப் பயன்படுத்தாதீர்” என்று மஇகா தேசியத் தலைவர் டத்தோஸ்ரீ ச.சாமிவேலுவும் கூறியிருக்கும் கருத்துகளை அணுகுவது நல்லது எனக் கருதுகிறோம்.

தம்முடைய கடந்த மூன்றரை ஆண்டுகால ஆட்சியில் நாட்டில் ஏற்பட்டுள்ள முன்னேற்றங்களைப் பிரதமர் அடிக்கடி நினைவூட்டிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறார். இந்த நினைவூட்டலின் மூலம் தங்கள் தேசிய முன்னணி வேட்பாளர்கள் செய்த சேவைகளின் - தேர்வு ரீதியில் சொன்னால் - படித்த பாடங்களின் பட்டியலைப் பிரதமர் மக்களிடம் சமர்ப்பித்திருக்கிறார்.

அதுபோலவே கடந்த மூன்றரை ஆண்டுகளில் தேசிய முன்னணி அரசு தங்களுக்குச் செய்த சேவைகளை அனுபவித்தும், பார்த்தும், கேட்டும் மக்கள் நிச்சயம் அறிந்திருக்கத்தான் வேண்டும்.

இந்தப் பிரச்சினையில் நாடும் மக்களும் பொதுவாக அடைந்திருக்கும் வளர்ச்சியையும் மலர்ச்சியையும் தெரிந்து கொண்டிருப்பதில் தவறு செய்து விட்டால், பாடங்களைப் படிக்காத மாணவர்கள் தேர்வில் அடைந்த தோல்வியையே அந்தந்தத் தொகுதி வாக்காளர்களும் அடைய வேண்டிய பரிதாப நிலை ஏற்படும்.

தேர்தலில் வாக்களிக்கும்போது ஑சொந்த புத்தியைக்ஒ கொண்டே முடிவு செய்ய வேண்டும் ஑சொல் புத்தியைக்ஒ கொண்டு வாக்களிப்பது சரியாகாது.

“அவர் சொன்னார் இவர் சொன்னார்” என்பதற்காக வாக்களிக்காமல், தங்கள் கருத்துக்கும் கண்ணுக்கும் முன்னே தெரிகின்ற நாட்டு வளர்ச்சியை எண்ணிப் பார்த்து வாக்களிக்க வேண்டியது வாக்காளர்களின் பொறுப்பாகும்.

பிரதமர் கூறியபடி பொதுத் தேர்தலைச் சோதனைக் கூடமாக்கி விடாமல் இருப்பதை வாக்காளர்கள் உறுதி செய்தால் நல்லது. அதுபோலவே தங்களை ஒரு கருவியாகவும் கறிவேப்பிலையாகவும் பயன்படுத்திக் கொள்ள யாரையும் இந்தியர்கள் அனுமதிக்கக்கூடாது என்னும் மஇகா தேசியத் தலைவரின் கருத்தையும் இந்தியர்கள் மறக்கக்கூடாது என்றும் நினைவுபடுத்துகிறோம்.

IS STAR PUBLICATION A SHARE HOLDER OF BARISAN NASIONAL?

Dear publisher,

With much regret and disappointment over the star publication i am writing this letter.

I strongly condemn and object all your articles in the star the pass few days. Very clearly i can see that your articles on the coming general election is giving a one sight report and supporting the barisan Nasional Government. I view this as something not healthy and a threat to the future of the the media.

You use the caption MALAYSIA DECIDES 2008 in your General election report. How to decide when you don't even give a report on the opposition party. Lim kit siang, Anwar Ibrahim and other oppositions gave many ceramah`s in penang, But i don't see any detail or article on that events. and even if i had see, It would be a negative report on that party. What kind of practice is this in a democratic country ? We as the rakyat and reader of the star expects and demand equal coverage and news on all parties in the general election. Yes it`s good to tell the nation what the barisan has done for it`s people and the development it has brought to this country, at the same time it is also important to hear from the opposition their views and vision for the country. Whether they are giving empty promises, or lying, it is for the rakyat to decide. Not for the government or for your publication to decide or come to an conclusion...

In your publication today 28/2/07 page N 11, there is an advertisement from MIC. What kind of advertisement is that. Is MIC trying to instill fear in the nation and getting votes by threatening us. It say`s IF YOU DON'T VOTE FOR MIC THEN BE PREPARED TO PAY THE PRICE....[Please refer to my previous posting on this issue, source by : http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/78847].What the hell does MIC mean by that. That statement has already breach the election campaign law which prohibits nominee's from threatening the voters. I see only Barisan Nasional `s advertisement in the star.. Aren`t there any other parties contesting in this coming general election? Every single day i see so many full page BN advertisement, Have they not yet exceeded the campaign budget limit approved by the election commission for all parties. I know how many thousands it cost for a single page advertisement in the star. Or is the star sponsoring the pages for BN... If yes, then why is the star not sponsoring also for DAP, KEADILAN and PAS. There are also readers whom support the opposition as much as the readers whom supports BN. This is such and insult to all readers of the Star. We give you business and you pay us back in this way ?

When reporting on news which refers to Dato seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Datuk seri Najib Tun Razak, your publication refers them as the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia . Has your editors forget that the Parliament has been dissolved. What right do you all have then to officially call both this people current ministers of Malaysia . Aren't` you all then giving false information to the readers.

I send this email as and warning to the Star Publication to give and equal coverage to all parties on the General Election. It`s is also a call from the Election Commission President of Malaysia to give and equal and fair coverage to all parties. If your company were to still publish report on a one sight view after reading this email, I am going to launch a boycott on the star publication and urge penang people not to buy the Star. I will go all out for it using my contacts and influences and make sure people do not buy the Star. There are alternative paper like the SUN which provides equal news to the nation. Why then spent more to buy news which is not fair and equal to all. I hope this is the start for a change in the way your reports are being published. Let the Nation decide, and dont fool your readers.

Mahathir: Samy stifled Indian voices

The problems plaguing the Indian community could be resolved by removing MIC president S Samy Vellu who stifled Indian voices, said former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday.

In the second part of an exclusive interview with the Malaysian statesman, Mahathir said removing the MIC leader would allow more Indian voices to be heard.

"I know their main grouse is not with me, their main grouse is with Samy Vellu because with him there, another Indian has been deprived of the chance to come up," he said.

Speaking to Malaysiakini at his Perdana Leadership Foundation office in Putrajaya, Mahathir deflected allegations that the root cause of the Indian community’s strife was due to his pro-Malay focus during his tenure as PM.

"So they want to blame me? It is not that. Samy Vellu did not ask for assistance. The problem is that he is preventing other Indians from having a say.

"(Indian Progressive Front president MG) Pandithan was got rid of, (former MIC deputy president S) Subramaniam was got rid of, K Pathmanaban died but of course before that, he was (former MIC vice-president).

"That is his (Samy Vellu) way of doing things and of course the other voices cannot reach me. And of course, he doesn’t say there is this battling among the Indians," he explained.

Pandithan, who was formerly with MIC, started IPF in 1990 after falling out with Samy. The two parties have been at odds with each other, especially after IPF sought to join the BN coalition.

Both Subramaniam and Pathmanaban have a history of bad blood with Samy in their failed attempts to challenge for the party presidency.

Mahathir also said in jest: "You know Indians are very political. Tunku Abdul Rahman used to say if there is one Indian, there is one political party. If there are two Indians, there are two political parties."

‘Don’t stay too long’

In the interview that lasted almost an hour, Mahathir also alluded that people should not stay in power for too long and chances should be given to others.

It is up to him to decide (to step down). A lot of people will say "if you step down, we will step down" and they will cry and all that. But when I step down, nobody stepped down," he mused.

Samy Vellu who is the works minister and the longest-serving cabinet minister has been the MIC president since 1979 for 10 consecutive terms.

Mahathir also criticised Samy for not bringing up Indian issues in the cabinet.

"That is his excuse. I know how much he talks in the cabinet. Don’t (say) something that others cannot prove because nobody heard him in cabinet except us.

"He talks, but these things were not the issues that he raised - like the recovery of money for the Indian community who were brought here by force and all that.

"He never mentioned that, I’ve never heard him. He never said that the Malays were committing genocide and ethnic cleansing. He never said that. Why didn’t he say that?" he asked.

Asked to comment on the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf), the former PM said their demands were unreasonable.

"Quite a lot of their demands were quite unreasonable - practically denying the position of the Malays as the indigenous race on this country. You know this is something very sensitive to the Malays.

"If the government tell the Malays ‘sorry you’ve got the same status is the Indians’ I think there will be a big drop of support for the government from the Malays," Mahathir added.

Don't vote with emotions, Indians urged

AYER TAWAR: The Indian community should not vote against the Barisan Nasional just because emotions are running high, said Perak Gerakan chief Datuk Chang Ko Youn.

“Cool down and keep your emotions in check. Please bear in mind that the DAP cannot do anything for you,” he said after visiting voters at Ladang Ulu Ayer Tawar on Wednesday.

“If we (the Barisan) lose, who is going to help you? You will regret your decision.”

Chang, a lawyer, compared the current situation to a court hearing. “It is similar to a case where a simple quarrel leads to murder,” he said. “Later, when the culprit gets hauled to jail, he will sit there and ask himself, ‘what have I done?’ ”

The Barisan government was aware of its weaknesses and was ready to improve, he added. “Yes, we might not have done enough for the Indians. We need to work harder to uplift their standard of living,” said Chang, who is facing Perak DAP chief Ngeh Koo Ham in the Beruas parliamentary seat this general election.

Still, he added, the community should not resort to the drastic action of voting against the Barisan, as this would backfire on them.

Chang said that since campaigning began, the ground feeling among the Indians was such that they would be willing to vote against the Barisan, even though they were aware that the opposition could not do anything for them.

In Beruas, Chang added, Gerakan adviser and former MP Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik had done so much for the Indian community in the five terms he served.

“And I am here to continue serving them the best I can,” he said.

The Barisan Nasional ruling coalition today warned the disenchanted minority Indian community that they would “pay the price” if they vote for the opposition in March 8 elections.

MIC, part of the BN coalition, took out full-page newspaper ads which said Indians’ prospects would “disintegrate” if they deserted the government.

The message is aimed at winning back the support of the community, which accuses the government dominated by Muslim Malays of insensitivity and discrimination.

“If you don’t vote for MIC, then be prepared to pay the price,” it said in bold red letters, urging Indians not to cast a protest vote for PAS, which rules impoverished Kelantan.

“Vote for PAS and see where Kelantan is today. If you think that you are not progressing under MIC, then you can now imagine getting disintegrated under PAS,” it said.

Ethnic Indians have become a political force for the first time in the March elections, after an anti-discrimination rally last year that led to the detention without trial of five activists from rights group Hindraf.

Samy’s act of desperation

Hindraf coordinator R Thanenthiran said the ads were a sign of desperation from MIC chief S Samy Vellu, who has been heckled and jeered for supporting the government and condemning the protesters.

“Samy Vellu is definitely threatening Indians,” he said. “This shows that he has lost all of his avenues to woo votes and is flexing his iron muscles to win.” “But the Indians are educated. They are not cowards. They will be not be intimidated by the threats. Indians want their rights that has been denied for 50 years,” he added.

Ethnic Indians complain that they are disadvantaged by policies aimed at boosting majority Muslim Malays, and the community has also been angered by the destruction of hundreds of Hindu temples in recent years.

Pollsters say they expect the multi-racial coalition, which has ruled for half a century, to be victorious on March 8, but with a smaller majority as it loses the support of ethnic Indian and Chinese voters.

In conjunction with the year-long 50th Merdeka celebrations, Istana Budaya and Fenomena Seni Pentas will be presenting an original play, Sambanthan, based on the life of Tun V.T. Sambanthan, the fifth president of the MIC.

Istana Budaya had previously presented plays in the form of musicals based on Malaysia’s past political figures such as Muzikal Tan Cheng Lock and Muzikal Putra, on the lives of Tun Tan Cheng Lock and former prime minister Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj.

Sambanthan, however, is not a musical but a Tamil-language play which retraces Sambanthan’s life as boy up to his death in 1979. Although much of the play is in Tamil, other languages are used as well, including Bahasa Malaysia and English. In an attempt to attract a larger audience outside the Tamil-speaking audience, Sambanthan will include subtitles in Bahasa Malaysia, which will be projected above the actors.

S.T. Bala, the writer and director of the play, has 18 years’ experience directing and producing Tamil plays but in a recent interview, he related how Sambanthan, his 19th production with Fenomena Seni Pentas, made him feel like he was just starting out.

“Directing and writing Sambanthan felt like I was doing my very first play,” Bala laughed. “A lot of work and effort went into this production. Casting was a very difficult process and the script was challenging as well because we had to get all the facts right.”

Telling Sambanthan’s entire life story within a two-hour play is daunting but Bala had the help of the late leader’s family for the research that he needed. Finding the actors – there are five actors including theatre stalwart Mano Maniam to portray Sambanthan during various periods in his life – proved the most difficult.

“We had to look for actors who had the same physical appearance as Tun Sambanthan which was very hard because Tun is a very tall man. But I’m satisfied with the five actors who are playing Tun as they are all doing their part to fulfil the character on stage,” said Bala.

The play will expound on the various qualities Sambanthan is credited for as one of the country’s leading Indian leaders who played a prominent role during the Independence movement in Malaya, his relationship with Tunku Abdul Rahman and the consolidation of the MIC party.

“You will get to know the policies he implemented, how close he was to various communities and his leadership qualities. The play will also show what he did in his 18 years of service (1955 to 1973) as president of the MIC and what he has done for the community and nation,” said Bala.

A brief preview of the play was held for the media recently, which showed Sambanthan and his concern for the Tunku (played by Jalaluddin Hassan) during the Kampung Baru riots, his conversation with his bride on their wedding night about his responsibility to the community and lastly, how he kept the balance with the different races in his hometown of Sungai Siput, Perak.

“If you want to know what Sambanthan was like, then please come and watch the show. He was a very interesting person as well as a politician. I’m especially appealing to the younger generation to come and see the play and see for themselves the kind of leader he was and the role he played for the well-being of the community and the country. You will be very surprised,” smiled Bala.

With all the hard work that has gone into Sambanthan, Bala hopes the play gets to travel outside the Klang Valley and ultimately, make its way into a film adaptation.

“I do want the play to be staged outside the Klang Valley but that all depends on the financial support. With me being a film student, I would also hope to turn this play into a movie as well,” said Bala.

He said that while Tamil theatre has always had a following – “I’ve been making Tamil plays for the past 18 years so the Tamil theatre scene is not as small as it seems” – he is confident that the local Tamil theatre scene is getting more response now.

“The competition that we face (as theatre enthusiasts) has always been from television and cinema. The mentality towards local theatre is changing though, especially in urban areas. They’re starting to realise the artistic value of theatre plays,” said Bala.

Sambanthan opens on Friday and ends on March 4. The play starts at 8.30pm and will be held at Auditorium Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysian Tourism Centre, Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur. A matinee show will be held on Sunday at 3pm. Tickets are priced at RM20 and RM30. Students will receive a 50% discount.

Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.

Do you know that the CE Marking is a symbol that indicates a product complies with the "essential requirements" of the European laws or Directives (directives are the mechanism by which European-wide legislation is enacted)? It indicates conformity to the legal requirements of the European Union (EU) Directive with respect to safety, health, environment, and consumer protection.

The CE Markings Directive (93/68EEC) was adopted on 07-22-1993. The CE-Directive gives a detailed description of the initials "CE" and the ways that conformity may be acquired. All products offered for sale within the entire EU must have the mark or they cannot be sold.

The CE mark provides a visible declaration by the manufacturer that the product complies with all applicable Directives (there may be more than one applicable Directive). The conformity of the product may be proven by following a testing and/or certification procedure as outlined in the Directive technical requirements.

Malaysian Indians boycott Hindu festival?

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) - Malaysian Indians stayed away in droves from a popular Hindu festival Wednesday, in a boycott linked to allegations of discrimination by the nation's majority Muslim Malays.

The colourful Thaipusam festival, during which devotees pierce their bodies with hooks and skewers, usually attracts more than a million people to Kuala Lumpur's Batu Caves temple, set in a spectacular limestone cavern.

But this year activists called on Hindus to celebrate elsewhere, accusing temple managers of assisting police who cracked down hard on a demonstration there last November, using tear gas and water cannons.

The crowds were thin Wednesday, numbering only in their tens of thousands, thanks to the boycott call and the prospect of more trouble.

A series of SMS text messages had called on ethnic Indians who did turn up to use their sandals to pelt political leaders including Samy Vellu, the leader of the Malaysian Indian Congress which is a member of the ruling coalition.

The veteran politician, who has sided with the government and been accused of neglecting the interests of his constituents, insisted there were at least half a million people at the complex and a million the day before.

"I have come to Thaipusam since I was 11 years old. I know the crowd. It is the same as before," he told reporters at Batu Caves.

"I don't think religious people who went to pray to Lord Murugan will listen to all the naughty fellows," he said of the SMS campaign.

"Who can threaten us? Anyone who threatens us we can find out where he is. It takes only five hours to find out where he is. They can't run away from us."

Stallholders and devotees lamented the small turnout and said ethnic Indians should work together to promote their cause.

"The crowd is normally double or triple this size. Now it's so small, so there is not so much of a great mood this time," said N. Kumaran, 41, a civil servant who has taken part in the festival for the past 14 years.

Sweet seller Joga Singh said that with the crowds so thin he and other vendors were not making any money this year.

"I think many people are afraid to come because of the SMS to boycott. Our business is suffering because of it," he told AFP.

At least 3,000 ethnic Indians gathered in the temple grounds to protest in November, and more than 8,000 people massed elsewhere the following day in unprecedented scenes that shocked the government.

In December it jailed five ethnic Indian activists under draconian internal security legislation that allows for detention without trial.

Malays, who make up 60 percent of the country's 27 million population, control the government while ethnic Chinese, who make up 26 percent of the population, dominate business.

Ethnic Indians, who make up 8.0 percent of the population, complain they run a distant third in terms of wealth, opportunities and education.

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has announced that the Government has declared Thaipusam a public holiday for Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. This year’s Thaipusam falls on Wednesday (Jan 23). Currently, Thaipusam is a public holiday in Negri Sembilan, Perak, Penang, Johor and Selangor.

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi pledged to the Indian community yesterday that he would consider declaring Thaipusam a national holiday. The Prime Minister said the annual festival, which falls on Wednesday this year, was nearing and the community was filled with expectations. Addressing a Ponggal Festival (Tamil New Year) event at Bukit Bintang here last night, Abdullah said he understood and appreciated the meaning of a poem read out earlier by an Indian participant, who called for Thaipusam to be made a holiday.

இந்த ஆண்டிலிருந்து தைப்பூசத்துக்கு, கோலாலம்பூர் கூட்டரசுப் பிரதேசத்துக்கும் புத்ரா ஜெயாவுக்கும் பொது விடுமுறையென அரசாங்கம் நேற்று பிரகடனப்படுத்தியுள்ளது.

இந்த ஆண்டு தைப்பூசம் புதன்கிழமை (ஜனவரி 23) நடைபெறுகிறது.

நாட்டிலுள்ள இந்திய சமூகம் மற்றும் இந்துக்களின் கோரிக்கையை மதிக்கும் வகையில் இந்த அறிவிப்பு செய்யப்படுவதாக பிரதமர் டத்தோஸ்ரீ அப்துல்லா அகமட் படாவி தெரிவித்தார்.
தைப்பூசத்திற்கு இப்போது சிலாங்கூர், பினாங்கு, பேரா, நெகிரி செம்பிலான் மற்றும் ஜொகூரில் விடுமுறையாகும்.

தொடர்ந்து பேசிய பிரதமர், ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் தைப்பூசத்தின்போது சாலைகளில் பெரிய அளவில் நெரிசல் ஏற்படுகிறது என்று கூறி பொது விடுமுறையை அறிவித்தபோது அங்கு திரண்டிருந்த மக்கள் பலத்த மகிழ்ச்சி ஆரவாரம் செய்தனர்.

நேற்று முன்தினம் ஜாலான் மஸ்ஜித் இந்தியாவில் நடைபெற்ற பொங்கல் விழாவில் கலந்துகொண்டிருந்தபோது தைப்பூசத்தை தேசிய விடுமுறையாக அறிவிப்பது பற்றித் தாம் பரிசீலிக்கப் போவதாகப் பிரதமர் அப்துல்லா கூறியிருந்தார்.

தைப்பூசம் நெருங்கி வந்து கொண்டிருப்பதாகவும் இந்த சமூகம் பல எதிர்பார்ப்புகளோடு இருப்பதாகவும் பிரதமர் அப்துல்லா கூறினார்.

Latest Robbery/Car-Jack Tactic

Dear friends,
The latest tactic used by robbers to stop you while driving and to rob, rape or slash you has come to my attention after a of a friend of friend of mine was trapped in this situation.

LATEST CASE

My good friend was driving along Kesas Highway with his wife just after Plaza Tol Puchong towards Kajang last Sunday 23rd December at around 11 pm after attending a dinner function at his relative's house in Bandar Sunway.

Suddenly, a motorbike overtook them and the pillion rider threw 2 eggs towards his car windscreen. Within seconds, his whole windscreen was smeared with the messy broken eggs. His immediate reflex action was to turn on the windscreen wipers which quickly covered the whole surface and blurred his vision.

So he immediately slowed his car and brought it to a halt along the emergency lane.
Then he got out of his car and was trying to wipe and wash the windscreen while his wife was seated inside the car. All of a sudden a Proton Satria stopped behind his car and 3 guys came running towards him with Samurai swords screaming at him to surrender his car and wallet.

Luckily my friend, who is attached to the police CID, managed to pull his gun out and fire two warning shots in the air. The 3 guys ran helter skelter back into their car and drove off at a very high speed.

He called up for assistance and was told the getaway car had a false number plate.
Apparently, this tactic has been used quite often in the latest string of road side robberies especially with lady drivers or men driving alone or with women and small children.

So please, should you encounter such a situation, REMEMBER to make sure:
1.Not to turn on your car windscreen wipers.
2.Continue driving, with whatever available vision, to the nearest petrol station, police station, 7–Eleven stores or any other crowded or brightly lit place to attract attention.

What do all these have in common? Studying, taking exams, deciding on what career move to take, relationship issues, moving houses, going on holiday... Yes, that’s right - some form of stress.

Everyone at some point will suffer from some kind of stress and some more than others, depending on the events in their lives. These feelings will usually come and go, but sometimes such feelings will linger longer than usual – making it more difficult for someone to pick themselves up.

Stop for a moment... are you experiencing emotional distress, do you feel like you have a lack of energy, loss of appetite, difficulty sleeping, mood swings, regular headaches, lack of interest, feelings that no-one understands, or turning to alcohol or drugs?

If you have identified some of these symptoms, then now is a good time to take action and try and help yourself to acquire a more positive frame of mind.

Positive Steps:

o Talking may be an old fashioned remedy – a problem shared is a problem halved, but it works. Talk to someone who has experience. (eg. counsellor, partner or family).

o If you’re over worked, try and manage your time better.

o Keep physically active, eating healthily, drinking sensibly and sleeping well all are contributing factors to a healthy mind.

o Set achievable and realistic goals.

o Do things you enjoy.

o Don’t rely on stimulates, such as drugs and alcohol to get you through the day.

o Don’t be afraid to ask for professional help.

We spend so much time worrying about what other people say or think about us, we don't realise what we say about and to ourselves speaks volumes about our self-image.

This is often done without thought, or without taking on board the damage we do to ourselves. How often have you heard yourself or someone else (if that's too close to home), say, "I can't do that... I'm not good enough/ qualified/ experienced/ knowledgeable/ worthy..." Adults and children alike are equally to blame when it comes to negative talking, for some it starts as a result of a bad experience, for others it begins when young.

Your image of self controls the way you live your life. It can propel you forward or it can hold you back. When your self-esteem is low your negativity is at the forefront. If you constantly tell yourself you are unable to do something, you never will, you may feel as if you have already tried and failed.

Turning harmful thoughts into good thoughts takes time, patience and encouragement. 'You can accomplish anything you set your mind to', and setting your mind is exactly what needs to be done.

Through consistent monitoring and adjustment of your 'language' you give yourself the reassurance needed. Parents can do this for their children - listen to them carefully, turn their negative statements into positive ones and watch as over time their confidence levels rise.
